While the Lakers’ acquisition of Steve Nash is being celebrated, consider this: Next year will be Nash’s age 38 season. This is the full list of players in their age 38 or later season who played at least 100 minutes this past season:
Jason Kidd, Grant Hill, Kurt Thomas, Juwan Howard.
Also, Nash will be 40 in his final season. A 40 year old hasn’t player 100 minutes in a season since Dikembe Mutombo in the 07/08 season. There hasn’t been a 40 year old guard since John Stockton in 02/03.
Nash has defied the aging process so far, but will he be able to continue to do so without the reknowned Phoenix Suns medical staff?
As the saying goes, Father Time is undefeated.
Also, as far as his 3 year, $25 million contract being a bargain, it may seem that way now, especially considering what Toronto was willing to pay, but consider Ron Artest. When he agreed to join LA for the Mid-Level Exception in 2009, it was viewed as a coup. Now, his contract is an albatross.
Good Luck Nash, you may need it.
